Mt Isa NW Queensland June 2009

This is my final month of working at Mt Isa School of the Air. The photos show me at work, teaching reading via the phone, horse jumps at the Mt Isa show and wild flowers. The stunning sun rise was the view from my bed at Julia Creek. Pub photo is also at Julia Creek which is a small town (pop 300) about 3 hours drive east of Mt Isa.

May 2009 Mt Isa NW Queensland

I am staying in Mt Isa for 10 weeks while I work at the School of the Air - children who live in remote areas and do their school work at home. The teachers monitor their returned work and take a lesson with the 8 children together each day via the phone network. Children also receive individual reading lessons by phone, twice a week. Teachers do home visits to the children in their class and I have been to see two of the children in my class in the time I've been here. The scenery around Mt Isa is ruggedly beautiful, red rocks and white gums.

April, 2009 Dalby to Mt Isa, Queensland

The oldest pub in Roma which is also famous for all the bottle trees planted along the streets. The ones in the main street have all been planted to remember WW1 soldiers.

This kangaroo watched me very carefully as I walked by, on  my way to the Stockman's Hall of Fame in Longreach.
Bones from dinosaurs have been found in a wide area of NW QLD.This leg is on display at Winton.

I'm now working at Mt Isa School of the Air, for 10 weeks. The photo of the mustering 'chopper' was taken when I was visiting one of my students, on a cattle station near Cloncurry.

March 2009 Dalby Queensland

This month I have been in Dalby, house sitting for Isabelle and Laff. Seven weeks in the one place was quite a novelty. I've now bought a keyboard to take with me on my travels. It sits neatly across my kitchen area and I play it standing up - Billy Joel style!
